K’s Kitchen

(DeliciousWORLD)K's Kitchen is found among the recent wave of Japanese establishments opening on Lucky Street near the new Japanese Embassy, but it's not as classically Japanese as might be expected. This Haoyun Jie newbie does inventive cocktails and western food well with light Japanese accents.
The restaurant is owned and run by some of the same partners from both Twilight and Apothecary. In keeping with its cocktail heritage, it shares its space with Mokihi, an excellent bar that is separated from the dining area. The cocktails are inventive, and possibly even better than those of its forerunners. The Campari beer (50RMB) is a good option if you're a fan of bitter brews while the ume (65RMB) is an addictive tequila-based mix of salt and sweet, with Japanese sour plums and lemon juice balanced against fresh strawberries and honey.

Nothing but the whole crab

(DeliciousWORLD)It's that season again, and for the uninitiated, having a meal out now can be quite a hairy adventure, as CJ Henderson finds out when she dons some gloves and dives into her first hairy crab taste experience. The executive chef of the Ritz-Carlton's Chinese restaurant, Yu, has designed a special six-course set menu around the hairy crab, taking advantage of the crustacean's brief two-month season. We went for lunch on a cold and cloudy day, and the warm green, white and wooden interior was very welcoming.
"These are special crabs. They are smaller than the Australian and Alaskan King crabs, but they are a delicacy we enjoy in this small window of time. They are a very aromatic crab; their flavor is not like any other."Chef Ku Chi-fai went out to Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, personally, to choose the perfect crabs for his restaurant. The trick, he says, is to steam and smell them. Quality hairy crabs give off a fragrance that tells you you've got the right product.

Shanghai's first Baker One

(DeliciousWORLD)Baker One café may be brand new but it has an air of polished commercialism that evidences its professional backing by The Fairchild Group, a conglomerate launched by influential Hong Kong-Canadian businessman Thomas Fung.Shanghai's first Baker One is entered through a gleaming patisserie with handsome cakes among the large selection of typical bakery fare. Servers in bow ties are remarkably keen and greet customers with smiles and offers of free tastings. The café has a massive al fresco area that's currently overshadowed by Line 10 construction, but looks like a potential summer time destination.

Kathleen's Waitan in Shanghai

(DeliciousWORLD)Nine years after Kathleen Lau's fine dining venture, Kathleen's 5, opened its doors, she's brought us the Bund-side sequel. One of the biggest draws of the People's Park original is its location atop the Shanghai Museum of Art, and with this new space in the Sassoon building, a former opium warehouse, on the northern Huangpu, Lau has scored an even more spectacular setting.Inside, it's sultry with dark teak-effect furniture and a slightly louche vibe that's a nod to its shady smuggling past. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a sprawling terrace with jaw-dropping views across the river to Pudong. We thought we'd seen the Pearl Tower from every angle, but this is something else.

Sun Tung Lok

(DeliciousWORLD)When the Michelin Guide went to Hong Kong, it granted the coveted triple-star award to just two Chinese restaurants, making waves across the restaurant industry. Of these, the stars awarded to Sun Tung Lok, a freestanding restaurant known for its shark's fin and dim sum finery, have been the most hotly contested. Those behind the Hong Kong branch have now opened a courtyard in Wangfujing – and it seems first impressions can be rough. On one visit, through 'automatic' glass doors controlled by staff, a miasma of sewerage hits hard. Another day, the air is perfumed with strong wafts of medicinal wood. Both are unappetising.
